The 3 things you SHOULD know about a Misfuel!

Waste Fuel Disposal

Got an old fuel container lying in the back of the garden with aged, useless or degraded fuel? We could help you to get rid of it. We've been called out to many domestic and commercial premises in West Sussex to deal with removing and recycling fuel storages. We are registered by the Environment Agency to allow us to extract and dispose of waste fuel legally and safely.

Irrespective of whether the fuel storage is a subterranean tank, a portable bowser, or perhaps a few containers in a shed, providing we can reach it, we are able to empty it.

AdBlue Contamination

All around West Sussex we are encountering increasingly more instances of AdBlue contamination when a motorist has put AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is in part a result of drivers not being aware of how to use it (please note: it is actually not a fuel additive), and to some extent due to the fact that the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are generally directly near to each other on the car.

Well, what is the matter with putting AdBlue in your diesel car?

Because AdBlue is predominantly deionised water, it's just like putting water into your tank. Diesel and water really don't mix in the least and attempting to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. Furthermore, the urea is fairly corrosive to the fuel system pipes and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, clogging injectors and filters. In the case you poured AdBlue in the fuel tank remove it as soon as possible. And obviously take care not to start the engine - not even to move it into a parking bay. Assuming you have started the vehicle you would very likely have to have the full fuel system purged and filters changed out.

Give us a call if you have experienced AdBlue contamination. We will help. We are Contaminated Fuel Specialists and will handle all types of AdBlue contamination.

Just had a fantastic night of uninterrupted sleep! It was 7:00 am on a bright Wednesday and we were on the way to assist an elder woman after she had put the wrong fuel in her diesel metallic silver Subaru Outback Sport in Balcombe Lane. She told us that she had left the petrol station forecourt and was stranded along a backwater road en route to see her godchildren. I got her location plugged into the Satnav and got there inside 60 minutes. I reached the destination and drained the wrong fuel out of the car. While I was working she said, "I have been becoming quite absent-minded in my senior years and forgot about the vehicle needing diesel since I'd only just got it several days back because my other one, which I owned for in excess of twenty years, inevitably stopped working". I got the job completed and she offered me a toffee and said thanks a lot. Such a pleasant West Sussex lady!

Consequently, in case you have filled your petrol car with diesel, or put petrol in your diesel automobile just about anywhere in West Sussex, speak to us right now. Our professional mechanics are available for you.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Balcombe Lane

I'm not so inclined to carrying out work Sundays, and a couple weeks ago was no different. I'd just departed the family filled with a lovely lunch made by the wife, and I was off to deal with a man after he had put the incorrect petrol in his Ferarri red Subaru Legacy. He was only in Balcombe Lane therefore I was with him very quickly. As I drove up at the rear of the vehicle and stepped out he told me "Praise the Lord! I had my attention on stuff and did not realise I have put diesel in my petrol vehicle. Is it likely I brought on some harm simply by driving it?" I explained that generally there shouldn't be any kind of damage and that also I'd get the wrong fuel drained immediately for him. As expected I drained the wrong fuel from the car and put in the appropriate fuel, and so another delighted customer had the ability to continue on his journey without the need for hassle. The man could hardly stop thanking me, and that helps make operating on Sundays in West Sussex just that tiny bit less painful to me!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
